Dr. Lars Wagner has recently joined the University of Kentucky as the new chief of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, after working for the previous nine years at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He is a graduate of the UK College of Medicine, and received his specialty training at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He is thrilled to be back in the Bluegrass state again, where his mission is to provide excellent comprehensive cancer care to the children of central and eastern Kentucky.
Joey Burke, R. N. has been employed at the University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital since 2001 as an acute care registered nurse. As a staff member she has provided for patients ranging from birth to young adult. This acute care population includes, but is not limited to oncology patients, diabetic patients in crisis, trauma patients, seizure management, surgical patients, infectious disease and wound care.
Joey also served on the Bluegrass Mental Health-Mental Retardation Board from May 1991 2011. She served as a Mental Health Associate working with children and family members in both group and individual therapy settings.
She has been recognized as Nurse Champion for Schwartz Rounds developed by the Schwartz Center for Compassionate Care and received recognition for Silver Status in Nursing Professional Advancement (NPA) in 2011.
Kara Gore, CSW received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Kentucky in 2012. She works at the Dance Blue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology Oncology Clinic and is a member of the Association of Pediatric Oncology Social Workers. She collaborates with patients and families to provide support and resources to meet the psychosocial concerns associated with their diagnosis and treatment.
